And another programmer gets to keep what's left of his hair for another day. I can't believe the inconsistencies between browsers . . . wait, we are talking about M$, I almost forgot. I have spoken with some of the development team over at microsoft and they have stated that IE behaves the way it does because early in its development, microsoft implemented the standards the correct way, but added functionality to IE that had no standards at the time. Rather than go back and clean up the errant code once standards were in place, they simply did the microsoft thing, they declared their way the proper standard implementation. I doubt we will ever have a common dom to traverse amongst all the browsers out there, but we can hope, after all tomorrow is another day.

I'm quite happy with the slim mac keyboard. I've seen some ranting about the function keys being hidden behind the fn button, and usurped by things like brightness and volume control. I don't mind that actually, and as a true-mac head , I despise function keys a la PC world - "simply press shift-F11 to do blah blah" That stuff seems so non-mac. I'm happy with cmd-x or cmd-v etc, as they are in the normal finger range of a touch-typing programmer type.

Disgusted with the service provided by orange, that said i had absolutely no issues with the livebox for about 6 months, everything was nice, and i was getting around 6mb speeds, however i have in the last month been disconnected with the dreaded PPP server down, spoken to countless indian morons, who are rude and simply advise me to exercise more patience!!

they obviously don't give a crap if it gets fixed or not, and only seem to palm you off and end the call as quickly as possible.

speaking to supervisors is useless as well, since they just reinforce the lies and bullshit the normal drones feed you!

i called to cancel, but was told i had to pay £114 pounds to end the contract, or wait until i had been disconnected for 30 days, i called again, since i had requested 4 line tests in total, and still had some vague hope of fixing my current connection... only to be told that they closed the fault, and although it still didn;t work, they were no longer investigating it.......

if you shout enough you get put through to cancellations, who all appear to be english..... they are very good at defusing the situation, and reassuring you they can do nothing but follow stupid procedures as well.

i now have only 3 days remaining until i can cancel.... i've been promised refunds for the hours of wasted calls going through power cycles and factory resets.... even though we know it won't work they make us go through it all again! i hate orange, and i have lost all respect for this filthy pile of crap company!

Unfortunately, the "it just works" part only applies once you have the system set up. I struggled with this a year or two ago, and now I'm going through the process again (upgrading FogBugz and switching machines). (On Leopard, you have to turn off the standard web server and compile your own. Which comes with unsafe defaults.) If you're actually a sysadmin, it's probably simple.

That said, the actual product was fine (and I expect the new version will be as well). But they are the exact opposite of Apple's out of box experience.

Fully agree on the mouse. I use Intellimouse Opticals where I can. I like the extra buttons for forward and back in the browser. Microsoft have always been a far better at hardware than software.

I'm a big fan of the new keyboard, love it, much faster to type on and much less typos! Today my little macbook went in for an MOT and I had to use the G4 AL book all day and I found it a real pain in the bum to type on. (although the 15 inch screen was nice:). I ditched the mighty mouse as well, mice is about the one thing that microsoft do well, I love my MS Laser6000!
As for opinions dressed up as objective design complaints, yep I'm sick of those kind of cheap comments as well!

So the long and the short of it is
better to object.this = 'that';
 then to object.setAttribute("this","that" );

 because setAttribute does not work all the time.

I only wished I'd read these comments before signing a new contract with them. The service is CRAP and by the looks of it there's not much I can do. Even whilst writing this message I've lost connection three times and then it's reconnected. Kind of have got use to the Wi-fi box reappearing on my desktop every ten minutes! I will be advising anyone not to bother with this shoddy provision. Orange you've lost me as a customer! How can I trust to use the this service and make purchases, submit information etc etc if at the next turn it again: Internet explorer cannot find page'?
